on november 12, a reporter from science and technology daily learned that the “research and development of key technologies for modern livestock and poultry breeding” project, a key special project of the national key r&d program “research and development of comprehensive technologies for prevention and control of major livestock and poultry diseases and safe and efficient breeding”, in conjunction with advantageous scientific research institutions and leading enterprises in agriculture and animal husbandry, has developed cost-saving and efficient modern breeding technologies for different regions and animal breeds in china. since the implementation of the project, a number of important technical achievements have been made, and a major breakthrough has been made in the r&d of precise feeding technology for sows, and the implementation effect is remarkable.

for a long time, the production level of sows in china is far below the world’s advanced level. however, in solving the problem of low reproductive performance of sows in chinese pig farming enterprises, there is a prominent tendency to prioritize lactation over pregnancy, technology over mechanisms, and experience over data. breakthroughs have not been made in the problem of low reproductive performance of sows for a long time.

peng jian, the person chiefly in charge of the project and a professor at huazhong agricultural university, said that in the whole reproductive period of pregnancy-lactation-weaning estrus, the project used a variety of multidisciplinary research methods such as feed nutrition, genetic breeding, microbiology and molecular biology, and big data analysis to clarify the key mechanisms that affect the reproductive performance of sows and identify key regulatory targets. on this basis, a new type of functional fiber product for sows was developed, and a precise feeding technology of “fat-measuring seasoning” was established. a precise breeding system for sows was established by integrating with the independently innovative big data analysis system for breeding pigs.

this technology system aims to improve perinatal insulin sensitivity, control pregnancy fat and regulate intestinal flora, develop a precise nutrition supply plan that meets the needs of sows with different performance by means of dynamic fat measuring and seasoning technology and functional fiber application technology, and comprehensively improve the number of healthy newborns, number of qualified weaning piglets, rate of weaning and pregnancy, and delivery rate through the feeding management driven by big data, achieving an increase in annual productivity of sows. 

peng jian said that since 2018, the results have been demonstrated and applied in domestic leading enterprises such as sichuan dekon food and agriculture group co., ltd. the number of sows in the application unit exceeds 500,000. by 2018, the psy of achievement promotion and application enterprises increased to 27.6 on average; the 21d weaning weight of piglets increased to over 68kg, and the accumulated profit increased to rmb 1.54 billion yuan in the past two years.
